Physiologic analyzers that evaluate upright posture, balance, and sense of equilibrium. These analyzers usually include a movable, tilting platform; a pressure transducer; and computing capabilities for data processing and recording. Some of these analyzers include electromyographic devices. For static posturography, the patient stands on a platform that is used to determine his/her center of gravity and to provoke destabilizing perturbations; in dynamic posturography, visual, somatosensory, and vestibular inputs are applied to the patient during postural control efforts. Posturographic analyzers are used to evaluate equilibrium disorders and other diseases of the nervous system; they may be used to evaluate the static weight distribution of manual wheelchairs.
