Median nerve distribution: the median nerve provides sensation to the radial side of the palm and the palmar side of the first, second, third and one-half of the fourth digits. The distribution carries over the tips of those same digits to the dorsum of the DIP joint. The motor component innervates the opponens muscle and carpal tunnel entrapment will lead to weakness of the opponens muscle and atrophy of the thenar eminence.
