Sequential peripheral circulatory assist units that synchronize the sequence of compression with the cardiac rhythm. These systems typically include a set of cuffs or boots that are wrapped around the patient calves, lower and upper thighs, and groins. The cuffs/boots are inflated in sequence from the calves to the buttocks during diastole, increasing the volume of blood returned to the heart through the veins. Synchronization of the sequence of compression with the cardiac rhythm is intended to provide a better peripheral circulatory assistance.
