Devices designed to facilitate the movement (i.e., closure) of the eyelids by providing additional weight. These weights are typically a metal (e.g., tantalum, gold, platinum) device that may be attached externally by the patient to the eyelid using adhesive strips or implanted under the upper eyelid conforming to the curvature of the ocular sphere. Eyelid weights are used in the treatment of partial facial paralysis in which the eye cannot be completely closed (i.e., lagophthalmos); their use reduces the risk of ocular exposure and improves the appearance of the face.
