Identified by dissection, they are located on the upper surface of the superior temporal gyrus, rostral to the planum temporale. The more caudal convolution is the posterior transverse temporal gyrus. Transverse temporal gyri are not seen in the macaque or in the smooth cerebral cortex of the rat or mouse ( NeuroNames ).
