Electric signal generators designed to deliver video signals in a wide variety of test patterns according to specific standards (e.g., NTSC/PAL/SECAM); frequently, the generators can also deliver signals in high-definition format (i.e., HDTV). These generators are typically an electronic unit with front and/or remote controls that allow selection of timings, patterns, color spaces, digital and/or high-definition output, and audio signal type and a display that shows the test pattern and parameters chosen. Some generators include software that facilitates pattern control using a computer. Video test pattern generators are intended for assessing and testing video monitors and other video equipment (e.g., network video servers, computer video surveillance systems, video recorders) and/or their components.
