A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacterium assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile, oxidase and indole negative, is fermentative and is most commonly isolated from animals, the environment, and potable water. E. vulneris is a human pathogen that can colonize the respiratory tract, female genital tract, and stool and has a particular propensity for wounds.
