?:definition
  • Dye lasers designed to deliver their energy to the surface of previously photosensitized tissues. The combined effect of light, sensitizers, and tissue oxygen destroy tissue by a phototoxic effect (photodynamic therapy). These lasers usually consist of a flash lamp of Nd:YAG pumped dye-laser generator and microlens or isotropic (spherical or cylindrical) applicators adapted to the absorption of the sensitizer. Photodynamic therapy dye lasers are used to ablate tissue (e.g., malignant tumors) without significant thermal effect.
