Pushrims are rings made of metal (such as aluminum or titanium) or of solid rubber that are attached to the outside of a wheelchair\'s wheels to help the occupant move the wheelchair; they are smaller in diameter than the wheels. Pushrims provide surfaces for the thumbs, fingers, and hands of the wheelchair occupant; the pushrims are gripped and rotated to provide propulsion to move the wheelchair\'s wheels. Pushrims may be coated to provide nonslip, cushioned gripping surfaces.
