Bandages designed to cast a body part and to provide protection and immobilization. These bandages are made from fabric coated with wet calcium sulfate hemihydrates (plaster) that becomes a rigid orthopedic cast when dry, or of synthetic materials (such as a fiberglass substrate with polyurethane resin). Casting bandages mainly are used on limbs for management of fractures and sprains.
