Antepartum physiologic monitors designed for continuous measurement and display of information of the fetus status, including the fetal heart rate (FHR); other fetal cardiac parameters; and, frequently, fetal movement and development and mother\'s uterine contractions. These units are hard-wired to the mother at the bedside. These monitors typically consist of a central unit with electronic circuits that can process signals from the sensors (e.g., electrodes) placed on the surface of the mother\'s abdomen using an indirect, noninvasive method. Bedside antepartum monitors are intended for use at doctors\' offices, clinics, and at home prior to labor (i.e., antepartum); telemetric fetal monitors are also available.
