Orthoses designed for external modification of the structural and/or functional characteristics of the head. These orthoses may be classified according to the physical characteristics (e.g., shape, consistency) and/or the material used to make the orthosis (metal, plastics, carbon fiber or a combination of these). Head orthoses are mainly intended for therapeutic use (e.g., to correct cranial deformities); some dedicated orthoses may also provide immobilization and/or support. Emergency immobilizers for the head and cervical spine are also available.
