?:definition
  • Monitors designed to determine the patient absorption of irrigation liquid that are mainly used during surgical procedures. These monitors typically display fluid pressure setting, fluid deficit, and distension fluid loss; the monitors usually work based on non-invasive methods that measure the amount of delivered irrigation solution and compare it with the volume of liquid returned to the container (e.g., using a scale to measure the inflow and outflow volume). The devices usually consist of a portable electromechanical monitoring device, typically mounted adjacent to the procedure main unit (frequently hysteroscopic) on an intravenous pole. Fluid absorption monitors are typically used to protect the patient from the excessive absorption of irrigation fluid during large ablative surgical hysteroscopy procedures; some monitors can be used also in other diagnostic and/or surgical cystoscopic and arthroscopic procedures.
