Human Oncogene LMYC is a mutated variant of LMYC Gene (MYC Family), which encodes L-MYC Protein, a bZIP transcription factor that binds to DNA as a heterodimer with MAX; DNA binding requires dimerization with another bHLH protein. The gene is amplified 10- to 20-fold in small-cell lung cancer (SCCL). Several LMYC mRNAs are produced in SCCL cells by alternative splicing and alternative polyadenylation. Oncogene LMYC disrupts normal cell function.
