Blankets usually made of plastic material that include channels for blowing air over the patient (i.e., convective heat transfer). These blankets are attached to a central unit that delivers the heating or cooling to the blanket, are available in many different configurations and sizes, and may be reusable or disposable. Forced-air blankets are used to provide adequate heating and cooling to the patient\'s body in the operating room for recovery, in hypothermia and hyperthermia treatment, and in cardiac and pediatric procedures.
