Manometric esophageal catheters that require infusion of water at a constant rate. These catheters include ports in which flow rate is changed according to the esophageal contractions; these changes are converted into electrical signals by external sensors. Hydraulic manometric esophageal catheters are used for short-term measurements and recording of the esophageal pressures and muscular events (e.g., peristalsis) with the patient in the supine position.
