Urethral catheters designed for elimination of areas of narrowing (i.e., strictures) in the urethra, thereby increasing its lumen. These catheters typically consist of a 16 Fr soft (e.g., red rubber) tube; catheters including hydraulic balloon inflated to 26 Fr diameter are also used. Dilatation urethral catheters are mostly used for clean intermittent self-catheterization at home as an adjuvant in the management of urethral patency.
