  • Guiding vascular catheters designed to facilitate access to the coronary arteries. These catheters (also known as cardiovascular guiding sheaths) usually consist of a 6 to 9 Fr thin plastic (e.g., polyurethane) tube that typically include nontapered tips with radiopaque extensions. Catheters of 7 to 9 Fr diameter are usually introduced using a transfemoral approach; 6 Fr diameter catheters may be introduced through an upper limb (e.g., transradial or transbrachial) intervention. Coronary artery guiding catheters are used for percutaneous coronary and/or graft angioplasty, to place coronary stents, and to introduce devices for other interventional coronary procedures (e.g., atherectomy). Dedicated coronary artery vascular guiding catheters are also used in a variety of intravascular (e.g., peripheral, central venous) introducers and catheterization procedure kits and trays.
