Patient warming/cooling units designed to warm or cool the patient by blowing air across the patient (i.e., convectively). These units consist of a warming/cooling system with a thermostatically controlled fan (blower) for heating or cooling and then forcing the air circulation; a specially designed reusable or disposable blanket; controls; and alarms. Forced-air patient warming/cooling units are used for rewarming patients in postanesthesia care units (PACUs), to help in the prevention of intraoperative hypothermia or to induce hypothermia in the operating room, and to cool feverish patients.
