  • Devices designed to perform surgery using a microwave frequency (typically 2.45 GHz) energy; the heating effect that causes tissue coagulation is provided by tissue resistance to the high-frequency radiation. These units include a microwave generator and appropriate applicators. The microwave energy delivered by the microwave surgical units is not effective to cut tissues, because they depend on mechanical action for cutting (e.g., scalpel).
