Tissue-ablation microwave therapy systems designed to ablate the inner mucous membrane (endometrium) of the uterus. These systems consist of both a unit including a microwave generator, typically at a frequency of 9.2 GHz, and a real-time temperature monitor which shows endometrial temperatures, and an applicator that includes a wave-guide microwave delivery system with a graduated scale, active dielectric tip, and temperature sensors. The probe is manipulated all over the endometrial surface to produce ablation. Endometrial-ablation microwave therapy systems are used to treat excessive or dysfunctional uterine bleeding (menorrhagia).
