A species of non-spore-forming, obligately anaerobic, Gram-positive bacillus in the family Erysipelotrichaceae. This species is positive for arginine dihydrolase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase, arginine arylamidase, proline arylamidase, and leucine arylamidase. S. moorei was initially isolated from human feces, is involved in human infection, and has been implicated as a causative agent of halitosis.
