Air-supplying respirators designed to prevent the wearer from inhaling airborne particles, gases, and/or vapors from the environment by supplying air from a self-contained air container. These respirators usually include a mask, a hose, and a portable air container that may be attached to the user. Self-contained source respirators do not limit the range of mobility of the user. They are available in two configurations: open-circuit type (intended for short-term use, usually less than an hour) and closed-circuit type respirators that filter and recycle the air and that may be used for up to a few hours. They are intended to enter and escape from an environment that is or may be immediately dangerous to life or health (e.g., closed rooms with contaminated particles or hazardous chemical spills).
