Filing cabinets designed to store cards upright and either perpendicular or parallel to the front of the cabinet (lateral and vertical filing, respectively). These cabinets typically consist of a metallic or wooden stand-alone structure, including one or more drawers that can accommodate cards of one or more size (e.g., 6 x 9 inch, 5 x 8 inch); they may include dividers to store several rows of cards in each drawer. Many card filing cabinets include locking systems and/or mechanisms that allow only one drawer to open at a time to avoid tipping; they are available in many different configurations and sizes. These cabinets are used to store many different types of information in healthcare facilities, including medical records, laboratory results, device status, and library and financial information and/or inventories.
