Stents designed for deployment into the larynx to provide support and/or to maintain patency of the airways. These devices typically consist of a plastic tube that conforms to the inner contour of the larynx, providing support but bending easily. The stent retains its position by adherence to the laryngeal contour; some include straps for additional anchoring. Laryngeal stents are used for posttraumatic support after laryngotracheal reconstruction. They are also used to treat laryngeal (e.g., glottis, subglottis) stenosis. These stents are usually removed endoscopically after laryngeal healing.
