Biliary stents manufactured from polymeric materials such as polyethylene, silicone, Teflon, or silastics; they are available in several different sizes to adapt to particular sections of the duct and/or to prevent migration. These stents are usually inserted using either percutaneous or endoscopic procedures. Polymeric biliary stents are removable devices mostly used to treat stenosis caused by benign diseases (e.g., stones, strictures).
