Biliary stents manufactured from metallic alloys, such as stainless steel, platinum, or nickel titanium alloys. These devices typically consist of a metallic (e.g., meshlike wire) tube, and some include a plastic cover. Pancreatic metallic stents may be either balloon expandable or self-expanding; they may be deployed using endoscopic or percutaneous procedures. These stents are permanent devices mostly used to treat stenosis of the biliary ducts caused by malignant tumors.
