Devices that combine the capabilities of video digitizers and high-capacity (e.g., magnetic disk) recorders. These devices typically obtain (capture) and digitize images from an external video source, such as a charge-coupled device camera or a video-cassette recorder and then store them on a high-capacity internal hard disk drive. They may include a built-in rewritable compact-disc driver (burner). Video digitizer/recorders permit the storage of several thousands of still images and/or several hours of motion video. The stored information may be transferred, processed, and manipulated through hospital information systems; printed using laser printers; and transmitted to remote places using a standard Internet browser.
