Semisynthetic dressings made of a matrix of hydrophilic polymers with high water content (at least 50 percent). These dressings typically donate moisture to the wound beds and are permeable to vapors and oxygen but impermeable to liquids. Hydrogel dressings are available in the form of amorphous, impregnated sheets; they are used mainly to maintain a moist environment in the management of necrotic wounds.
