Air filters designed to remove gas and vapors from the air stream. These filters use either physical adsorption and/or chemisorption for gas and vapor removal. They are typically composed of highly porous materials (e.g., carbon, polymer) that may be either chemically active (e.g., using strong oxidizers) or not. Some air gas/vapor filters combine mixed and/or layered sorbents to permit the removal of a broad range of contaminants. Gas/vapor filters are used to reduce odors and common gaseous contaminants in healthcare facilities; specialized filters can be used to remove toxic industrial chemicals and/or chemical agents.
