  • Physiologic monitors designed for continuous measurement and display of information related to the evoked potentials generated between the retina and the cornea due to ocular motion in response to visual stimuli (electrooculography, EOG). This information is obtained through point-to-point radio or other appropriate communication links. These monitors typically consist of a main computerized electronic unit and detachable surface electrodes placed on the lateral canthi of each eye to capture the electric signal resulting from the visual stimuli. The telemetric monitor also includes a pocket-sized, battery-powered transmitter that is clipped to the patient\'s gown (or carried in a pouch) and a receiver that is integral or associated to the central station where the information is displayed. Telemetric EOG monitors are used to help diagnose certain types of retinal and/or neurologic diseases and to assess the short, fast movements of the eyes made during reading and sleep.
