Capnometers designed to measure the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2) in the sublingual tissue (PslCO2). These devices typically consist of a measuring unit (i.e., the capnometer) that measures and displays the PslCO2 values; it is connected through a cable to a single-use transducer that is placed in contact with the sublingual tissue (e.g., placed under the tongue). Sublingual tissue capnometers are used mainly in diagnostics and evaluation of critically ill patients; they may be useful for assessing tissue perfusion.
