?:definition
  • A vaccine consisting of human papillomavirus-derived noninfectious virus-like particles (VLPs), containing the L1 major capsid protein. Vaccination with HPV 16 L1-VLP results in increases in T cell-proliferative response to HPV 16 L1-VLP, as well as significant increases in cytokine (interferon-gamma, interleukin-5 and -10) responses to L1 VLP. This agent may reduce the incidence of persistent HPV-16 infection, which may be responsible for half of all cases of cervical cancer including high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. (NCI04)
