Human ATR wild-type allele is located within 3q22-q24 and is approximately 130 kb in length. This allele, which encodes serine/threonine-protein kinase ATR protein, plays an essential role in cell cycle checkpoints required for cell cycle arrest and DNA damage repair in response to DNA damage. This allele may be particularly essential in the early embryo to sense incomplete DNA replication and prevent mitotic catastrophe.
