Human LTA wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 6p21.3 and is approximately 2 kb in length. This allele, which encodes lymphotoxin-alpha protein, is involved in the mediation of a large variety of inflammatory, immunostimulatory, and antiviral responses. In addition, the allele plays a role in secondary lymphoid organs during development and in apoptosis.
