Dryers designed to remove moisture from laboratory gels using heat or heat combined with vacuum. These dryers typically consist of a container with a transparent cover and electric heating elements, a vacuum port, appropriate sheets (e.g., Mylar, polyethylene), and temperature and time controls to establish appropriate drying conditions for different types of gels. Gel dryers are used to dry large gels and/or a combination of smaller gels intended for preservation or for chromatography, electrophoresis, densitometry, and/or other laboratory procedures.
