Middle-ear surgical chisels designed for cutting and shaping bone, cartilage, and associated tissue of the middle ear during procedures performed under a microscope (i.e., microsurgery). These chisels are typically a very small handheld, manual, flat-blade instrument with a cutting edge that is beveled on one side at the distal end and an integral (usually knurled) handle. Microsurgical middle-ear chisels with a great variety of shapes are available; they are usually supplied in sets intended for particular procedures such as stapes surgery (stapedectomy) and otologic microsurgery.
