  • Devices designed to be implanted temporarily to stabilize intestinal loop ostomies (i.e., stomas formed by pulling a loop of the intestine outside the abdominal wall). These devices typically consist of a sterile, plastic cylindrical apparatus (i.e., rod). During the loop ostomy procedure, the surgeon places the support rod underneath the loop of intestine pulled through the abdominal wall in order to prevent retraction of the intestinal loop into the abdominal cavity while the junction between the intestinal stoma and peristomal skin heals.
