  • Intravascular occluders consisting of coils appropriate for intravascular embolization. These coils typically consist of flexible wire constructed of a soft metal (e.g., platinum). The wires comprising these coils may be bare metal or modified by the addition of a coating (e.g., hydrogel, polygycolic acid) or polymeric fibers. These occluders are mostly used for occlusion of venous malformations and lesions (e.g., aneurysms) in the neurovasculature; they are also used in occlusion of selected peripheral vasculature, in particular embolization of vessels supplying blood to hypervascularized tumors.
