  • Punches designed to excise a segment of tissue from the liver of a cadaver without performing an autopsy. These punches are typically handheld, manual instruments (resembling a stylet) that are appropriate for direct perforation of the abdominal wall and dissection of a liver sample. Postmortem liver punches are used mainly for diagnosis of yellow fever; they are not appropriate for biopsy of internal organs in living persons.
