Neuromuscular stimulators designed to stimulate the nerves that are responsible for swallowing, causing the swallowing muscles to contract. These devices are typically portable electrotherapy stimulators that deliver appropriate low-level electrical stimuli to the throat muscles involved in swallowing using a dedicated set of electrodes. Dysphagia neuromuscular stimulators are intended for treatment of deficiency in swallowing (i.e., dysphagia), especially oropharyngeal dysphagia, affecting patients with neuromuscular disorders and/or patients who had suffered troke and/or head and neck cancer.
