Phototherapy units designed to irradiate patients with infrared (IR) light for therapeutic purposes using a combination of pulsed IR lamps and laser devices. These devices typically apply pulses of radiation in the near-IR spectrum (from 700 to 1,400 nm) using conventional light sources (e.g., lamps) and/or laser devices (e.g., diode, Nd:YAG, Er:YAG) combined in a unit that may use different probes and one or more sets of light filters. Pulsed IR phototherapy units are used mainly in dermal treatments, including removal of vascular and/or pigmented lesions; they are also used for hair removal and wrinkle reduction.
