?:definition
  • Data processors designed to acquire and process digital data obtained from signals (e.g., electrocardiographic, electroencephalographic) previously recorded electronically. Data is transferred from the recorder (usually an ambulatory recorder) to the processor (also known as a scanner) for quantification, processing, display, and storage using dedicated software; the processor may also generate reports. Electronic data recording processors are used to analyze continuous and event tape recorder data; they are intended mainly for detection of temporary abnormalities and to check the progress of therapy over a relatively long period of time (e.g., 48 or 72 hours). Dedicated electronic recording data processors (e.g., electrocardiographic, electroencephalographic, activity) are also available.
