Light (optical) microscopes designed to magnify minute structures (e.g., tooth cavities, gum tissue), with adjustable (e.g., from 2x to 20x) magnification and focus that are especially suited for dental procedures. These microscopes consist of optical stereo microscopes that may be mounted as stand-alone units on the floor, attached to dental units or the wall, and/or suspended from the ceiling. Still image and/or video cameras are frequently attached to the microscope allowing real-time observation and/or recording of the dental procedure. Examination/operating dental microscopes are intended to facilitate a variety of examination, operative, and/or microsurgical dental procedures, including endodontic (i.e., root canal) practice, periodontal microsurgery, and restorative dentistry.
