?:definition
  • Video cameras designed to transmit images from the organs inside the abdominal cavity through a laparoscopic port. These cameras usually include appropriate semiconductor sensors (e.g., CCD, C-MOS) at the distal tip of a laparoscopic probe; the captured signal is delivered through fiber optics to a video monitor and/or to a video recorder or processor. Laparoscopic video cameras permit diagnoses, treatment, and/or performance of laparoscopic surgery in real time becoming the eyes of the surgeon; they are also intended for picture documentation of the laparoscopic findings and/or instantaneous display of the images for observers outside the operating room and/or for teaching purposes.
