  • Sterilizing units designed for total inactivation of microorganisms that are or may be present on medical devices using chlorine dioxide gas with low humidity content. These units usually include a treatment chamber with shelves on which the devices to be sterilized are placed, usually after being cleaned of gross debris and packed in gas permeable wraps; means to introduce the gas into the chamber; and controls to choose one of the sterilization cycles. After the sterilization cycle is complete an evacuation system to eliminate the gas residues is usually activated. Chlorine dioxide gas sterilizing units are available in a variety of shapes and sizes; usually as both stand-alone and tabletop units. The units are used to sterilize devices and supplies that are sensitive to high temperature and humidity, such as those including plastic and rubber components.
