?:definition
  • refers to one of three parts of the midbrain reticular nucleus in the rat. The other two are the magnocellular part of the midbrain reticular nucleus and the retrorubral area of the midbrain reticular nucleus. The parvicellular part is located lateral to the medial longitudinal fasciculus and inferior to the periaqueductal gray. It was once regarded by some authors as part of the pedunculopontine nucleus. Functionally it is part of the behavior control column of the subcortical motor system, perhaps specifically involved in locomotor control ( Swanson-2004 ).
