It largely overlaps the dopaminergic A8 cell group ( Halliday-2012 ). Some authors restrict its definition to the portion where dopaminergic cells of the A8 cell group are prominent ( Halliday-2012 ). Functionally It is one of two components of the midbrain reticular nucleus in the behavior control column of the subcortical motor system. The other is the parvicellular part of the midbrain reticular nucleus ( Swanson-2004 ).
