Amalgam restorative dental materials in tablet form designed to be mixed with liquid mercury and used as metallic fillings for in situ restoration of the appearance, structure and/or function of a patient\'s teeth. These amalgam restorative dental materials consist of a mixture of liquid mercury and high strength alloys whose main constituents are silver, tin, and copper; they do not contain zinc and therefore minimizes the risk of fracturing the restoration. Amalgam restorative dental materials supplied as tablets ensure a long lasting restoration and do not adhere to tooth structure without the aid of cements or techniques which lock in the filling. These amalgam restorative dental materials are strong, resistant to wear, malleable, durable, and can be triturated by hand or used by amalgamators; the amalgam is usually placed on the rear molars since its metallic color is not an aesthetic match with natural tooth enamel. They are used in dentists\' offices.
