  • Nonabsorbable periodontal regeneration membrane implants are thin flexible sheets usually made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and are intended to facilitate both bone and tissue regeneration. PTFE membranes are implanted during periodontal surgeries such as bone and socket grafting procedures. Gingival tissue grows faster than bone; by creating a space between the teeth and the gums, the membranes create barriers between the gum tissue and bone, allowing time for bones to regrow and preventing the gums from filling up all the space. When implanted, a small portion of the membrane is left above the patient\'s gum line so that it can later be removed by dental professionals without requiring another surgery. These implants are available in various sizes and thicknesses.
